The Elizabethans were great ones for playing games, with the nobility and royalty often engaged such pastimes as Fox and Geese, chess, backgammon, Alquerque, and Nine Man Morris. Game Night will feature these activities as well as such current favorites as Othello, and The Bard Game. No previous experience with Shakespeare is necessary; there will be prizes for game winners. 7pm Reading Room. Free and open to the public. Read more.

Celebration of International Women’s Day

In recognition of International Women’s Day, the Everywoman’s Center, the Women of Color Leadership Network and the GSS Graduate Women’s Network have come together to organize an afternoon of art, poetry, music, food, information and self-care. From 3:00-4:00 there will be information tables featuring literature from campus-based women’s organizations, refreshments, massage and henna tattoos, as well as an opportunity to be inspired by the Women of Hope poster art show. From 4:00-5:00 there will be a reception and an exceptional poetry reading honoring the lives of women including: Leslea Newman, Lenelle Moise and Karen G. Johnston.

Professional Seminar Series: Academic Conferences

This seminar will go over how to find conferences, give you examples of conference abstracts, offer advice and tips about attending conferences, and give you a chance to ask questions. Everyone is welcome, from new grad students who have never submitted a conference abstract, to veterans of conferences who can offer their advice, and everyone in between. This seminar is part of EGO's Professional Seminar Series and will be followed by this month's EGO meeting.

Check out the notes from the recent graduate program information meeting hosted by the English Graduate Office entitled "Everything you ever wanted to know about the MA/PhD Graduate Program, but were afraid to ask…." The Graduate Program Director referenced a list of questions she'd received via e-mail and through conversations with students. This is by no means an exhaustive summary but hopefully it is useful in answering some of your questions. If you have additional questions or concerns, we would recommend consulting the department's website and/or talking with your advisor(s).
